Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs backs EU stand on Republic of Moldova

Bucharest, April 7 /Agerpres/ - The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) backs the stand of the European Union voiced by the EU High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy Javier Solana relating the developments in Chisinau.

MAE calls on all the sides involved in the actions in the Republic of Moldova not to respond to violence and provocations, the ministry said in a press release on Tuesday.

MAE draws attention that the violence against the state institutions cannot be condoned and underscores it is very important to respect the inalienable rights to the citizens' free meeting and to peaceful protests. The ministry also points out that the respect for the principle of the state of law is equally important, at the same time with the respect of the human rights.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced earlier that it is closely watching with concern the situation in the Republic of Moldova, after the developments in Chisinau.

In a press release MAE voiced concern about the information also carried by the news media relating the perpetration of violent acts, the public's lack of access to information by the news media channels, the Romanian citizens being prevented from entering the Republic of Moldova and other developments.

The ministry will reject any provocative attitude against Romania expressed amid such circumstances and it will voice an official viewpoint of the situation in the Republic of Moldova after having made a complete analysis of such developments, the release said.
