Marking its 60th Anniversary Summit, NATO spotlights Allied efforts in Afghanistan through a campaign in the capital where the North Atlantic Treaty was signed to found the organization. NATO will run a display campaign in the Washington, D.C., Metro system from Monday, March 23, through April 19, coinciding with the 60th Anniversary Summit jointly hosted by France and Germany in Strasbourg and Kehl. The 20”x21” displays will run inside the Washington Metro cars where they will be visible to tens of thousands of commuters and tourists daily. Romania has a considerable presence in Afghanistan in support of both the ISAF mission and the Operation Enduring Freedom with 956 deployed militaries performing a variety of missions. These include the participation to a NATO Provincial Reconstruction Team in Qalat, Zabol Province (southern Afghanistan) together with US forces. One of the pictures showed in the Washingtonian Metro is showing aspects of the way that Romanian soldiers are building strong relationships with the local communities. Up to this date a number of nine Romanian members of the armed forces paid the ultimate sacrifice to the mission of restoring stability and peace in Afghanistan.
